History:
The
Corpus Christi Minor Seminary was established in 1960 in Corpus
Christi, Texas by the late Bishop Mariano S. Garriga. His dream
was to build a High School for young men aspiring to the priesthood.
During his administration he brought the Jesuit Fathers to the
Diocese to staff it.When it was built it had the best of everything.
No expense was spared to build this place. The facility first
operated as a place of early formation and education for many
of the priests now serving in parishes across the Roman Catholic
Diocese of Corpus Christi. Due to declining enrollment and lack
of funds the Corpus Christi Minor Seminary closed its doors in
the early eighties.
Recently
the facility has been renovated under the vision and inspiration
of the current Bishop of Corpus Christi, Most Reverend Edmond
Carmody, D.D. His goal was to offer a new Catholic coed high school
available to the Corpus Christi community. This high school will
provide a unique environment in which students can experience
the presence of the Holy Spirit. On August 1, 2006 John
Paul II High School opened its doors to a whole new generation
of students. Its focus is on the individual person's spiritual,
moral, intellectual, social, cultural and physical development.
